1 Corinthians 7
"I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord" (1 Cor 7:35).
Paul wants the Corinthians to make marriage and family decisions that promote the goals of good order and undivided devotion to the Lord Jesus. These are the goals the Corinthians believers should aim for.
Some practical ways I can promote good order and undivided devotion to the Lord Jesus in my own life are: (1) waking up at 5am for a shower, coffee, Bible study, and checking personal emails; (2) studying Precept Upon Precept Jeremiah with Averil; (3) always being involved in at least one D group; (4) keeping up with my Bible in a year plan; (5) praying and then making phone calls to family and friends while driving to work; (6) listening to a good book with Averil while we are in the sauna; and (7) having a lunchtime Bible reading time at work.
Father, you have instructed us to make decisions that lead to good family order and undivided devotion to your Son. Help me to make such decisions. Help me to keep my life simple by saying no a lot. May I let you be God and not run around trying to do everything and solve every problem. Thank you for this word of encouragement today! In Jesus' name, amen.
