1 Samuel 13-14
H - "And Samuel said to Saul, 'You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of Yahweh your God, with which he commanded you. For then Yahweh would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. Yahweh has sought out a man after his own heart, and Yahweh has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what Yahweh commanded you.'" - 1 Samuel 13:13-14
E - Saul is winning some battles but he is not fully obeying the Lord, including in little things. Because of this, God promises to eventually fire him and his royal line. God will raise up a new king who will keep what he commands. This new king will be a man after God's own heart.
A - Father, am I a Saul or a David? Do I fail to keep your commands in the little things? Or am I a man after your own heart? If you were seeking out a man after your own heart today, would you seek me? Why or why not?
R - "To obey me, you must listen to me. To listen to me, you must pray to me. You are neglecting prayer because of your ministry to do list. How can you obey me when you are busying yourself with so many tasks? Simplify your to do list so that you can pray and listen to me. Spend quality time with me each day. I am ready to give you clear commands, if you would seek my face. David was a man after my own heart because he spend quality time with me, long before he ever became king."
P - Father, I hear you. You are right. Help me to simplify and focus. May I listen carefully to you, especially through your word followed by prayer. Help me to focus on what really matters. I want to be more of a man of prayer. May I be a leader who does the little things well and faithfully. Keep me from Saulish foolishness. May I be a man of Davidic closeness and obedience in smallish things. Amen.
