1 Samuel 17-18
H - "And David said to the men who stood by him, 'What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?'" - 1 Samuel 17:26
E - David has seen Goliath for the first time and heard his taunt against God and Israel. His immediate reaction is, "Who will defeat this guy?" He has zero doubt that the living God will prevail against this giant man. This shows David's sure courage in the power and victory of God.
A - Father, is my heart like David's, one of courage? How do I have absolute faith in your victory like David? When confronted by this evil world, do I cower in fear or do I speak bravely for you? How do I get to a place where I don't lose my poise when confronted by giants?
R - "David learned about me in the fields, looking after sheep. It was his alone time with me that was his strength. He had spent so much time with me, that once he saw this giant, he had no doubt the giant would be defeated. My Son Jesus was the same. As a youth, he had no doubt in the power and strength of God. When his first real challenge came, he was absolutely ready. So you, too, must spend maximum time with me. This is what you are currently neglecting. Please come up and spend time with me in prayer and fasting."
P - Father, I hear you. Your consistent instruction to me is to spend more time with you. May I prioritise that, Lord. Help me to seek quiet, peaceful times with you, for extended periods. Lord, I want to be a courageous man for you, but not in a phoney way. I want to have real trust in you. Give me more courage, Lord. Teach me to spend time with you.
