Jonah 3-4
H - "Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s journey. And he called out, 'Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!' And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them." - Jonah 3:4-5
E - God gives Jonah a second chance to go to Nineveh and warn its people of coming judgment. This time Jonah goes and delivers God's message. The people actually listen! They believe the warning and humble themselves before God, including the rich and the poor. It is a city-wide revival.
A - Father, it is possible for something like this to happen in our city, Dunedin?
R - "Be a man of great faith, Jeff. Pray for revival. Consider the examples of the past, like the Welsh revival of 1904-05. It starts with persevering prayer and obeying the Holy Spirit's promptings. Pray that I will raise up preachers in your midst that will proclaim the true gospel without fear. Be the type of local church that could ignite a revival. Call the saints to prayer, fasting, Bible study, and zeal. Be a catalyst of revival. Remember I am bringing the Suns to you. I will bring others. Work zealously with disciple makers. Seek out the willing and the faithful."
P - Father, give us the strength to warn of coming judgment, as Jonah did. May we accurately warn of coming disaster, both in time and eternity. May that warning bring people back to you. Help me to speak of the lake of fire, from a biblical perspective. I am so hesitant to do that. May I preach the whole counsel of God. Revival will come only if the New Zealand church speaks unambiguously about the tribulation, the great white throne judgment, and the lake of fire.
